  • Overview

    The GBS Group, an engineering and technology solution provider, is seeking a Damage Control Technician to support US Navy damage control systems in our Philadelphia Engineering Office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, which is a dynamic urban development, offering the Philadelphia region a unique and centrally-located waterfront business campus committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability. The Navy Yard has over 20 acres of parks, one mile of waterfront trail and is located less than one-half mile from the Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park, as well as the retail/entertainment center Xfinity Live!.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to

    • Provide engineering, technical, repair and logistic support to forces afloat in identification and correction of material condition discrepancies in Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) systems to identify and correct systems material discrepancies
    • Update and maintain configuration and availability report database systems
    • Develop or update on board training and curriculum and conduct instruction in U.S. Naval Surface Force
    • Travel is anticipated to be 20%

    Qualifications

    Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

    • Experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of firefighting systems and equipment, damage control equipment, and chemical, biological and radiological defense equipment.
    • Experience directing or supervising a work force of lesser skilled technical personnel in the performance of repair and maintenance functions
    • Experience providing  training in the operation, maintenance and repair of damage control systems and equipment, life saving devices, and various firefighting methods
    • Provide technical in-process review of progress of work identifying specific deficiencies and recommending corrective action for items identified.
    • Provide technical guidance to Ship’s Force with testing and repair of HM&E systems and support equipment.
    • Provide and maintain all engineering evaluations and recommend changes or improvements to HM&E systems.
    • Must have an active DoD security clearance

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Possesses a working knowledge of Naval Shipboard acronyms, surface ship engineering systems, equipment and operations
    • Adept at compiling data and other information and forming them into clear, succinct products for senior leadership
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to learn new tasks and concepts quickly
    • Self-motivated team player must be able to work independently
    • Detail oriented and efficient at multitasking
    • Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project) Manipulating, formatting, and analyzing data. Includes creating charts, forms, and integrating with other MS Office products.
    • Proficient in technical writing and editing
