    The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking an IT Technician (Part-time) for our 4 PM to 8pm (Monday - Friday) shift  to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office or Philadelphia Engineering office. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services firm with a variety of contract types. Our headquarters is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk’s Waterside District and includes a 24x7 Operational Support Center monitoring all client installations in North America as well as a world class lab with configurations of all client hardware and software systems. The Philadephia office is located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, which is a dynamic urban development, offering the Philadelphia region a unique and centrally-located waterfront business campus committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability. The Navy Yard has over 20 acres of parks, one mile of waterfront trail and is located less than one-half mile from the Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park, as well as the retail/entertainment center Xfinity Live!. 

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to

    Roles and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

     

    • Tier 1 trouble ticket generation and resolution.
    • Access servers and network equipment via remote desktop and SSH; provide technical Wi-Fi support to customers.
    • Proactively monitor client systems for early detection and correction of errors.
    • Perform daily operational status checks of systems using established procedures.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot system problems based on procedures and processes.
    • Ensure systems are operating as designed and provide constructive feedback on procedures and processes already in place.
    • Generate daily status reports and report updates of client systems.
    • Escalation of tickets to Tier 2 in accordance with client specific SLAs when troubleshooting procedures and processes fail to resolve system problems.
    • Configuration, optimization and troubleshooting of network devices to include: Routers, Wireless access points, Servers, and Firewalls
    • Other duties as assigned. 

    Qualifications

    Candidates must possess the following professional experience & qualifications:

    • Associate of Applied Science in Information Systems Technology (Network Administration or Network Infrastructure Specialist) or related discipline highly desired
    • Relevant training applicable Information Systems Technology career field may be substituted for an applicable degree
    • One (1) to three (3) years of technical experience related to:
      • Linux or router operating systems
      • IP routing and switching
      • Wi-Fi installation and troubleshooting network outages, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Windows environments
      • Network monitoring systems (such as SolarWinds)
      • Windows 7, 10, and Windows Server environments
      • Remotely managing endpoints using Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) and SSH
      • Trouble ticketing systems
    • Provide fault isolation and resolution using established procedures and processes.
    • Properly documenting support and repair activities.
    • Pass standard background check and drug screen.
    • Must be able to work Monday - Friday 4pm - 8pm EST.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Technical certifications preferred
    • Experience configuring Linux configuration and/or managing SQL server.
    • Oracle database administration.
    • Be self-motivated to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with propensity for providing strong customer service.
    • Root cause analysis of difficult problems.
    • Resolution of known technical errors.
