    The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician - GSE to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. Our world class engineering staff consist of USCG licensed maritime engineers, professional engineers, and former shipboard operators. Propulsion, generator and steering controls designs developed by The GBS Group are deployed throughout the world on the most advanced naval and commercial maritime ships. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services firm with a variety of contract types. Our headquarters is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk’s Waterside District and includes a 24x7 Operational Support Center monitoring all client installations in North America as well as a world class lab with configurations of all client hardware and software systems.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to


    • Troubleshoot and repair programmable logic controllers (PLC), remote I/O and associated electrical components in support of shipboard control systems.

    • Install and configure configuration data sets in support of shipboard machinery and steering control systems.

    • Read and interpret engineering drawings in support of troubleshooting, wiring, and testing.

    • Coordinate and conduct test of shipboard control systems.

    • Provide system operators training and support to equipment on installed shipboard control systems.

    • Identify and solve problems related to ship systems design and equipment installations and develop field modification request/ship alteration request as required.

    • Prepare technical documentation such as reports, procedures and test plans in support of all aspects of shipboard control systems.

    Qualifications

    Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:



    • Graduate from military A school, trade school, industrial or correspondence school.

    • Must have 10 years of experience with Navy equipment and/or machinery on ships and 8 years of experience conducting and witnessing shipboard and land based installation and operational testing of U.S. Navy based systems and equipment.

    • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.


    Desired Characteristics:



    • Former Navy GSEs and ICs.

    • Ability to travel up to 20%.


    Physical Requirements:



    • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs numerous times.

    • Ability to work in confined spaces and in extreme temperatures.
