    The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Machinery Controls Systems Engineer to join our Philadelphia Engineering Office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, which is a dynamic urban development, offering the Philadelphia region a unique and centrally-located waterfront business campus committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability. The Navy Yard has over 20 acres of parks, one mile of waterfront trail and is located less than one-half mile from the Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park, as well as the retail/entertainment center Xfinity Live!.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to

    • Support NSWCPD in distance and onsite troubleshooting and repair of shipboard Machinery Control System (MCS) hardware and software problems identified by ships force personnel.
    • Operationally test, troubleshoot and repair the Machinery Control System (MCS).
    • Troubleshoot and repair both Versa Module Eurocard (VME) Bus and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) equipped systems and components.

    Qualifications

    Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

    • BS. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
    • Shipboard or industrial experience with machinery control system installation, operational testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
    • Experience troubleshooting software-based machinery control systems.
    • Versa Module Eurocard (VME) Bus experience.
    • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience.
    • Experience with MCS hardware interfaces.
    • Experience in reviewing schematics to isolate shipboard issues and redlining drawings if discrepancy were found.
    • Experience with Profibus, RS-485/232/Modbus, and fiber optics
    • Experience with coding and designing

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Experience installing, operating, and maintaining software-based U.S. Navy shipboard machinery control systems.
    • Programming languages – Ada, C++
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and above
