    The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Maritime Electrical Power Systems Engineer to support our growing technology business in Virginia Beach, VA. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services contractor with a variety of contract types. Our Headquarters is located within 12 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk’s Waterside District and includes a 24x7 Operational Support Center monitoring all client installations in North America as well as a world class lab with configurations of all client hardware and software systems.

     

     

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to

    • Support shipboard electrical power and machinery control systems and equipment.
    • Provide design support for integration of equipment in an industrial/shipboard environment.
    • Develop programming and equipment standards for shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems.
    • Prepare technical documentation such as reports, procedures and test plans in support of all aspects of shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems.
    • Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems and equipment.
    • Participate in requirements development and design reviews to document system issues and revise design specifications and other detailed documentation for new systems and modernization efforts.
    • Contribute to proposal development by providing generation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS’s), Bill of Materials, and labor estimates for shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution system upgrades.
    • Communicate effectively with team members in software engineering, hardware engineering and program management.

    Qualifications

    Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
    • 5-7 years of experience working with shipboard electrical power generation systems
    • Proficient knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures associated with US Navy and commercial shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems.
    • Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems and equipment.
    • Ability to travel up to 40%
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Woodward, Basler, or ComAp generator controls experience.
    • SKM System Analysis Software experience.
    • Technical writing ability.
