Overview

The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician - GSE to join our Philadelphia Engineering Office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, which is a dynamic urban development, offering the Philadelphia region a unique and centrally-located waterfront business campus committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability. The Navy Yard has over 20 acres of parks, one mile of waterfront trail and is located less than one-half mile from the Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park, as well as the retail/entertainment center Xfinity Live!.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Troubleshoot and repair programmable logic controllers (PLC), remote I/O and associated electrical components in support of shipboard control systems.
  • Install and configure configuration data sets in support of shipboard machinery and steering control systems.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings in support of troubleshooting, wiring, and testing.
  • Coordinate and conduct test of shipboard control systems.
  • Provide system operators training and support to equipment on installed shipboard control systems.
  • Identify and solve problems related to ship systems design and equipment installations and develop field modification request/ship alteration request as required.
  • Prepare technical documentation such as reports, procedures and test plans in support of all aspects of shipboard control systems.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Graduate from military A school, trade school, industrial or correspondence school.
  • Must have 10 years of experience with Navy equipment and/or machinery on ships and 8 years of experience conducting and witnessing shipboard and land based installation and operational testing of U.S. Navy based systems and equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Former Navy GSEs and ICs.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs numerous times.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and in extreme temperatures.
