Overview

The GBS Group, an engineering and technical consulting firm, is seeking a Programmer at our Philadelphia, PA location.  The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, which is a dynamic urban development, offering the Philadelphia region a unique and centrally-located waterfront business campus committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability. The Navy Yard has over 20 acres of parks, one mile of waterfront trail and is located less than one-half mile from the Wells Fargo CenterLincoln Financial FieldCitizens Bank Park, as well as the retail/entertainment center Xfinity Live!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Development of new software features, deletion of obsolete software features, software optimization and refactoring, development and review of software documentation and procedures, and diagnoses of errors.
  • Develop, program, test, maintain, and install supervisory control systems software
  • Generate new code and correct, convert, and/or modify existing code to meet specifications
  • Distance and onsite troubleshooting of software problems
  • Confer with end-users and customers to analyze specified methods and procedures, identify problems, and document specific requirements.
  • Write, review, and update technical documentation such as users’ manuals, product specifications, and training materials.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Control Systems is required, no equivalencies or experience substitutions will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in programming, engineering, and/or control systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio to develop, compile and debug source code
  • Experience with networked, IP-based systems
  • Familiarity with basic operating system concepts such as memory management, storage management, usability, interoperability, and processor scheduling
  • Knowledge and experience developing software utilizing the Microsoft .NET Framework
  • Functional knowledge of C++ and network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP)
  • Candidate must be available to travel at times up to 5-10%.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
