Overview

The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Controller/Corporate Accountant for our Virginia Beach office. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services contractor with a variety of contract types. Our Headquarters is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk’s Waterside District and includes a 24x7 Operational Support Center monitoring all client installations in North America as well as a world class lab with configurations of all client hardware and software systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Manage and oversee Accounting staff.
  • Oversee and monitor payroll processing and implementation of employee benefit contributions and payments.
  • Manage and oversee revenue recognition working closely with Director of Contracts and Lead Project Controller for reporting of project and company financials.
  • Develop financial statements and reports for upper management utilizing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements; calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
  • Maintain and control general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system and a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
  • Perform periodic bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Review and process expense reports, including reconciliation of company paid expenses.
  • Oversee Cash Management; enter journal entries, verify and enter transactions, process fixed asset procedure, process and verify direct/indirect costs procedure.
  • Prepare DCAA provisional rates and Incurred Cost Proposal annually.
  • Manage accounts receivable, ensuring accounts receivable are collected promptly.
  • Process accounts payable, monitor debt levels, compliance with debt covenants and ensure required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
  • Process tax payments and reports, including foreign tax payments; comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Prepare corporate annual report; recommend benchmarks against which to measure performance of company operations.
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
  • Provide financial analysis as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Support external accounting firm with share valuation, and preparation of corporate federal and state tax filings.
  • Assist with payroll processing, internal and external audits, budget development, review and analysis.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.

Qualifications

Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with at least 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • CPA is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with government contract accounting.
  • Experience with ERP systems, Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
  • Experience with managing processes, developing standards and procedures, audit procedures, developing and managing budgets, developing and analyzing financial reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and possesses excellent communications and people skills.
  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience in government contracting, multi-company transaction processing and international transactions.
