The purpose of the Engineering Technician V - Waterfront Coordinator position is to provide technical guidance and system troubleshooting in support of ship’s force for submarine Combat Control and Weapons Systems.The Engineering Technician V/Waterfront Coordinator will act as the subject matter expert for the Combat Control System, to include VLS and torpedo tube weapons launch equipment, weapons handling and storage systems, signal ejectors, and guidance test sets and weapon digital simulators.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Onboard integration and work control support of availabilities, HM&E and C5I alteration preparation and installation
  • Availability planning and maintenance/modernization support
  • Assisting ship’s force and maintenance/modernization providers in advance planning
  • Development of integrated availability work packages and production schedules
  • Identifying critical path jobs and development of work sequence schedules
  • Process Memorandums of Agreement in support of work during availabilities
  • Liaise with the LMA, integrate work control priorities and total effort into pier side availability work schedules
  • Liaise with maintenance organizations to integrate work schedules and installation suppor requirements
  • Liaise with ship’s force to resolve issues related to maintenance/modernization and AIT installations
  • Provide consolidated status reports for ongoing activities
  • Evaluate and coordinate maintenance of internal structure systems
  • Collect and distribute “lessons learned”, develop and incorporate process improvements as appropriate
  • Attend LMA production and planning meetings as required. Attend and prepare for conferences as required such as AIT and Maintenance/Modernization Conferences, HM&E Conferences, Top Management Attention (TMA), etc.


Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with no more than 7 years experience any combination of relevant work experience or college education equivalent to 7 years
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience.
  • Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages.  

Desired Characteristics:

  • Three (3) years full time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test and/or repair of submarine electrical and or electronic systems/equipment
  • Five (5) years full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of electrical/electronic systems/equipment
  • Active or ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
  • Prior service aboard submarines or experience with submarine systems highly desirable
