The purpose of the Engineering Technician V position is to provide technical guidance and system troubleshooting in support of ship’s force for submarine Combat Control and Weapons Systems.The Engineering Technician V will act as the subject matter expert for the Combat Control System, to include VLS and torpedo tube weapons launch equipment, weapons handling and storage systems, signal ejectors, and guidance test sets and weapon digital simulators.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Provides support as primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CCS MK1-based Vertical Weapon Launch Equipment containing MK121 MOD 0 Missile Interface Consoles, MK122 MOD 0 Interface Control Consoles, MK408 MOD 0 Status and Firing Panel, Missile Tube Control Panels, and associated interfaces with Vertical Launch System Missile Tubes.
  • Provides technical guidance and system troubleshooting in support of ship’s force conducting system adjustments and minor repairs on Weapon Launch Equipment containing Multiple Tube Weapon Simulator, Weapon Control Console, Tube Control Panels, Weapon Interface Modules, Dual Computer Interface Modules, Weapon Supervisor Panels, Torpedo Data Converter, Frequency Converter Units and associated electrical interfaces with Torpedo Tubes and Vertical Launch System Missile Tubes.
  • Provides technical guidance and system troubleshooting in support of additional systems to include SSN 688 Torpedo/Missile Handling and Storage System and Torpedo/Missile Shipping & Unshipping System, electrical and electronic components of MK67 Torpedo Tubes, Vertical Launch System Missile Tubes, 3" Submarine Signal Ejector and 6" Countermeasure Launcher, Guidance Test Set, All-Up-Round Electronic Simulator, Digital Missile Simulator.
  • Briefs ships’ crew and leadership on the status of assigned tasks and/or repairs.
  • Provides on the Job Training to ships’ crews when conducting maintenance and/or making critical repairs.


Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years related experience with submarine combat control and weapons launch and handling systems

Desired Characteristics:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and assess various pieces of US Navy Submarine Combat
  • Ability to communicate well with superiors and peers
  • Ability to read technical manuals and repair standards
  • Ability to work well on their own with minimal supervision
  • Ability to write reports in MS word, use Excel, and develop PPT presentations – MS OFFICE Suite
