The purpose of the Engineering Technician IV position is to provide technical guidance and system troubleshooting in support of ship’s force for submarine Combat Control and Weapons Systems.The Engineering Technician IV will act as the subject matter expert for the Combat Control System, to include VLS and torpedo tube weapons launch equipment, weapons handling and storage systems, signal ejectors, and guidance test sets and weapon digital simulators.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Construct components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment and troubleshoot and correct malfunctions as needed
  • Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data
  • Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
  • Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts
  • Develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and use judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.


Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Three (3) years full-time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test and/or repair of submarine mechanical and or electrical and or electronic systems/equipment.
  • Five (5) years of full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of mechanical and electrical OR electronic systems/equipment
  • Experience in evaluating the material condition of ship systems and implementing corrective action
