Overview

The GBS Group, an engineering services and technical consulting firm headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, has an opening for a Technical Drawings & Logistics Branch Head. Designers and Drafters work alongside our world class engineering staff consisting of USCG licensed Maritime Engineers, Professional Engineers, and former shipboard operators. Propulsion, generator and steering controls designs developed by The GBS Group are deployed throughout the world on the most advanced naval and commercial maritime ships. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district.

 

The Technical Drawings & Logistics Branch Head is responsible for overseeing the activity of multiple engineering support functions including: allocation, training and management of design resources to meet program demands, set standards for engineering drawings and technical publications, evaluate CAD tools and modules, and coaching/development of team members

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Responsible for managing a team of engineering designers and technical writers on multiple projects
  • Interact with engineers and project managers on requirements, specifications and deliverables to include, but not limited to technical drawings, technical manuals, bill of materials, and spares provisioning.
  • Set and enforce standards for engineering drawing and technical manual quality within the organization
  • Develop engineering processes regarding technical drawing and manual creation, reviews, updating, and archiving
  • Assist the team with creation of complex drawings and assemblies as needed
  • Ensures projects are on schedule and within budget
  • Ensures outcomes that conform to employer's values and strategies
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers as required

Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or a related field; 10+ years in an engineering/deck related field or shipboard experience may be substituted in lieu of the educational requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading teams in engineering support functions
  • Experience with MIL specs and ABS design standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and AUTOCAD
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
