Overview

The GBS Group, an engineering and technical consulting firm, is seeking a Maritime Field Services Manager to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services contractor with a variety of contract types. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district.

 

The Maritime Field Services Manager is responsible for key client account growth, reviewing request for quotes, developing proposals, generating cost estimates (labor, material & travel), coordinating and overseeing purchase orders received for maintenance and repair of various shipboard systems and equipment

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Receive and review all maritime technical assist request for quotes. 
  • Liaison with the engineering, subcontracting and purchasing departments to develop cost estimates.
  • Work with the proposal department to issue competitive and timely proposals.
  • Coordinate and execute with the engineering and purchasing department the execution of engineering and technical assist work that is awarded to the Maritime Division.
  • Review/Approve engineers and technicians service reports and work with the finance department to close out and invoice jobs in a timely manner.
  • Refine bid, proposal and execution processes and procedures to ensure key client growth and customer satisfaction. 

Qualifications

Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or a related field; 10+ years in an engineering/deck related field or shipboard experience may be substituted in lieu of the educational requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Verbal and written communication is a must to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope and evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
  • Ability to prepare, monitor and administer budgets, as well as perform financial analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Desired Characteristics:

  • USCG license and/or Maritime graduate is preferred.
