Overview

The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking an Engineering Technician (Integrated Bridge Navigation Systems) to join our Philadelphia Engineering Office.  The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, which is a dynamic urban development, offering the Philadelphia region a unique and centrally-located waterfront business campus committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability. The Navy Yard has over 20 acres of parks, one mile of waterfront trail and is located less than one-half mile from the Wells Fargo CenterLincoln Financial FieldCitizens Bank Park, as well as the retail/entertainment center Xfinity Live!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain network components, computer systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLC) systems.
  • Serve as Primary Point of Contact for DDG and LCS Integrated Bridge Navigation Systems (IBNS) lab set up, testing and modernization.
  • Support all test events for Integrated Bridge Systems: scheduling meetings, lab set up/configuration of system, imaging of work stations, and lab modernizations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings in support of troubleshooting, wiring and testing.
  • Design additional lab setups (SW development lab, IBNS Contract 3 hardware lab) to meet future test requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation such as reports, procedures and test plans.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Graduate from military A school, trade school, industrial or correspondence school
  • Must have 10 years of experience with Navy equipment and/or machinery on ships and 8 years of experience conducting and witnessing shipboard and land based installation and operational testing of U.S. Navy based systems and equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with Imaging utilities like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image
  • Experience with Networking, switching, routing and Soldering
  • Former Navy Information systems technician (IT) and Electronics Technicians (ET) preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs numerous times.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and in extreme temperatures.
